What is the Letters Around the World Preschool Curriculum?

It’s a letter curriculum designed for preschool through first grade to help moms teach their children about different countries around the world. Perfect for the homeschooling, world schooling or public schooling family that wants to supplement their child’s education.

With this preschool geography curriculum, your child will learn letters and countries at the same time!

Why Should Preschoolers Learn World Geography?

Similar to the reasons why we love to travel with our kids, teaching them about the world is important to us for many reasons.

I truly believe that by teaching our children about other cultures, we are preparing them for success later in life. By learning about other countries, we open up their world to wider possibilities, to accepting and loving others despite differences, and finally fosters curiosity and a love of learning.

The idea came when I was trying to teach my boys about Hong Kong and China, where I had lived for a time during grad school. At the same time, I was working on the letter C in our homeschool preschool and I thought it would be a fun way to tie it all together.

I created a little sheet with some fun facts and tracing letters. I didn’t have a map or a flag, but we both found it so fun to talk about a new place together while he worked on tracing the letter C.

What can your child learn about the world with this curriculum? Easter traditions in Lithuania, the history of the chocolate bar, the water crisis in Ethiopia and more. Learning about the world will be fun and rewarding when you do it together!

How to Use the Preschool Geography Curriculum

This curriculum is designed as a supplementary letter tracing worksheet to help you teach your child about the world around them.

It is designed as a letter tracing curriculum. But even more important than practicing letters, this particular curriculum is designed to foster curiosity and appreciation for different cultures and countries around the world.

Check out how we use this program in our World Schooling Morning Basket.

I would love for you to use the facts on each country sheet as a jumping off point for doing your own research and investigation into each country. If there is something that peaks your child’s interest, find videos, photos and more information online.

We love using our sheets at home and out and about! We recently took the P is for Philippines sheets to dinner at a Filipino restaurant to discuss and work on while we waited for our food.

This will foster curiosity in your child and is a great bonding activity for you to do together!

After discussing the country, have your child trace the letters and have fun with the coloring page! Your child can color in the flag or let their creativity fly! If you have an older child, you might encourage them to draw some of the things that you discussed on the map portion of the coloring page!
